blandsion
tonight as i drove up to the stairs leading to the house i've been taking care of for a friend, i caught some movement of an animal as it disappeared behind a car in my head lights. a coyote. i parked my car on the opposite side of the street and as i sat in my car collecting my things and trying to catch a glimpse of where the coyote might have gone, i spot not one, not two, but three coyotes sitting on the steps directly where i am supposed to walk up to get to the house. troubling. as i pondered how i would go about calling animal control/some nearby friend to come with me up the stairs, they ran down single file and trotted up the street further into the little hills. amazing!!

i work too much
i like my job. what i don't like is missing out on 95% of activities with family and friends, whom i feel like i have yet to have quality time with since my return from the Arctic. i'll post photos of the goings-ons i have managed to cram in real soon. but for now here is a list of situations i would accept as "quality time":
-road trips and extended explorations:
Yosemite National Park, CA
The Salton Sea, CA
Cochise County, Arizona and the Southwest in general
San Jose and greater Bay Area, CA
Big Sur, CA
Piercy, CA
Denver, Colorado
the coast of Maine
Poulsbo, Washington and the Pacific Northwest in general
Spiral Jetty Salt Lake City, UT
Lightning Field outside Las Cruzes, NM
-staying a few nights at the lighthouse hostels at Pigeon Point or Point Montara, CA
-visiting Chicago and Southern Illinois, specifically Springfield, specifically the home of Abraham Lincoln and his final resting place there (again). ideally the Museum of Funeral Customs adjacent to the cemetery wouldn't be closed this time.
-visiting more Civil War battlefields
-hanging out with my sister in the last months before her first child is due. being present for the birth of my nephew would also be rad
-taking my grandparents out on the town who just moved here from El Salvador
-attending more Sacred Harp sings
-making dandelion wine
-buying some land and beginning construction of dream homes
i'm 22 and i'm ready

hanging around the naval yard
things that happened in the past week:
+ got bitten by killer mosquitos through my clothes some more
+ homegrown pot sitting on a half pipe ramp with a skateboarder from Helsinki named Pekka
+hash and drank gin & tonics in Sweden at a dude's house who lived right on the Gulf of Bothnia
+ received a letter in the post confirming a place to live for the month of July on a remote island of 40 inhabitants in northern Norway
+ watched 3 Aki Kaurismaki movies
+ drank cheap 1 euro beers until 4am with friends then fell asleep on the floor of the flat while listening to Dissection
+ felt sad about not going to Helsinki
